YOGYAKARTA - Members of Flying Object Research Center (FORCE) studying mechanical engineering from Gadjah Mada University flew an unmanned aircraft called Camar Biru (Blue Seagull) on Wednesday. UGM FORCE team consists of eight students and three lecturers. The small unmanned aircraft is able to fly for 15 minutes at the height of 200 meters. During take off, this aircraft was flown by remote control. It followed line of track as programmed via Global Positioning System (GPS).
"This aircraft is able to fly 15 minutes dependend on battery power only. This is third generation. We made it for the first time in 2011," a supervisor, Gesang Nugroho said. Camar Biru has length of 120 centimeters (cm), height 30 cm, 200 cm wing span and weight four kilograms. It is equipped with a camera, video sender and Digi X-Trend 900 Mhz Radio Transciever for telemetry system. The technology helps the unmanned plane to transmit live video, making maps and aerial photos of mosaic and dropping payload at a given location.
